Dancer

Yesterday I mentioned the Dancer was calling to me. For those who don't know what or who the Dancer is I have included a photo. The weather when this photo was taken was much nicer than it is now. When the Dancer is saying "Take me south" it means we would both rather be in a warmer climate this time of year. Maybe we will make it one of these years. For now the Dancer is tucked away in the top of the old barn waiting for spring.

Today was a sawmill day. I had an order for some blocking for a company in Fort Wayne. They order only once or twice a year and it is not a big order but they pay when they pick up their order so are a good customer. They manufacture all kinds of commercial mixers like you would use in blending ingredients in larger quantities such as an ice cream manufacturer. They must be large because they order 4x4's and 4x6's which they bolt the mixers directly to for shipment.

I had a neighbor call tonight and wanted to know if I did snow plowing. I told him not really except for myself then he said he had just gotten out of the hospital and couldn't do it himself. When he told me that I said if he did not find anyone I would come over tomorrow and plow his drive for him. It will take longer to drive the tractor over and back than it will to plow him out.

Snow & Feathers

This has been another cold and snowy day in northeast Indiana. School was cancelled so Marcia got to stay home and grade papers, some day off. I spent most of the day plowing snow just so we can get around. January has certainly been one of those old fashioned winters that you hear about. It makes the calls from the Dancer sound even louder and they sure sound like "take me south".

I am going to try to post a photo of the snow and some of our birds. The first one is of a hawk that likes to hang around the bird feeders and the second one is just the snow with some birds at the feeder east of the house.

Cold

Woke up at 4:30 this morning and thought the house felt a little cold. Went to check and cold air coming out of the register, not good. I remembered I had cleaned the ashes out of the furnace yesterday afternoon and then fixed the fire around 6:00 PM with no bed of coals to sustain it the wood had pretty much burned up but there were still a few coals left. I got the fire going and by the time I left for my workout it was warming up in the house so Marcia was going to be warm when she gets up. I have been working in the office today trying to get caught up with bill paying and work on tax stuff.

I finally got another lens for my camera. I bought a 70-300mm telephoto on ebay and it came the end of last week. It is in really good shape for a used lens and makes a big difference in taking long shots it really brings them up for better defintion.

I better get back to work so will finish this up for today.

We have decided to enter the age of today and create a blog. We will be sharing our thoughts, photos of family and things from our travels. When I say "We" we are speaking primarily of Dewey as Marcia is not really into this but since "We" are the Powers Family this will be about us and those close to us.

I will start with the usual the weather here in NE Indiana is still quite cold -2 this morning and we still have several inches of snow on the ground. The good thing about that is the birds are literally flocking to our bird feeders giving us a lot of entertainment. I wonder if we are eligible for a stimulus grant to help with the funding of feeding the birds, might be worth a try. The snow is pretty but we are rapidly tiring of it as it becomes a real challenge to get things done. It just seems to take twice as long to accomplish any task. We are looking forward to warmer weather and getting the camper out for our first 09 trip. We will have to hurry to get out before I have my surgery in late April or early May. I doubt we will be taking many trips for a while after the surgery but hopefully we will get to go out before the end of summer. We have the Meston Family Reunion coming up this summer so that will be one of our trips. It is going to be at Whitewater State Park in southern Indiana again.

I will try to update periodically with photos of interest and reports of the goings on at the Powers Family Farm. Thanks for taking the time to come visit.
