Indy Zoo

We have had a busy summer.  One of the things on the agenda was to have the roof and steeple painted on the Powers Church.  We got that job done.  Actually Mike Holden and two of his adult children did the work.  Here is a picture of them hard at it.
We also made a trip to the Indianapolis Zoo where we met up with Brian, Jennifer and the boys plus Alyssa.  We had a beautiful day as it was a little cooler so the animals were somewhat active.  We got an early start leaving home at 5:00.  (that's right-- in the AM)  We arrived at the zoo about 9:30 just as Brian and Jennifer pulled in and Alyssa was right behind them.
Here is a picture of the family as we head out into the zoo.

We saw giraffes, rhinos, ostriches, zebras, lions and cheetahs.  There was a place next to the cheetahs where you could race the cheetahs.  Actually it was a timed race to see how your speed compared to that of a cheetah.  Cole got off to a fast start but not nearly as fast as a cheetah.

Quinn was just having a good time watching.

We continued walking around the zoo and came to the elephant exhibit.  I will have to say it was very interesting.  There was one young one that evidently really enjoyed playing in the water hole.

Then he started swimming around and he would dive into the water.  First he had his rear end sticking up.

Then he jumped up out of the water with his front end up.

It was really funny watching him.  He was having a grand ole time just playing in the water hole.  He would swim around and dive completely under water. Then he would rise up with one end or the other.  He kept it up for probably fifteen minutes.

The boys got to go to the petting area of the zoo and pet some goats.

Here is one of Dewey at the elephant exhibit.  I'm the one in front.

This is Brian and Cole at the dolphin show in the aquarium.

We had a really great day at the zoo.  It is always nice to spend time with family.
